<quote ref="Leviticus 26">
“If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands, I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees of the field their fruit. Your threshing will continue until grape harvest and the grape harvest will continue until planting, and you will eat all the food you want and live in safety in your land.”

<fact>

“I am the Lord your God. Thou shall have no other gods besides Me” This is our first and foremost commandment. God tells us He is our God, our Creator. We are called to be obedient because from there we become prosperous.

We are also obedient to our parents. They gave birth to us, nurtured, and taught us. Without them we will not be here today. Being obedient is to respect and listen to our parents. They only want what is best for you because they love you. They make decisions with care so that you are safe, that you become good children of God, and you lead a good life.

When we disrespect and disobey our parents, our relationship is broken. Likewise, when we fail to see God by disobeying Him, we break our loving relationship with him. His will is for us to live in a peaceful world. If we don’t seek out his love and break that relationship, we bring pain not only to ourselves but those around us, our family and friends.

When we are disobedient to our parents, we hurt them and make them sad. Sometimes they become angry because they were trying to protect you and keep you safe. Disobedience can open up new doors for temptations that will further distance your relationship with your parents and ultimately God.

God told Abraham to bring Isaac to the top of Mount Moriah. God then told him to build an altar and use Isaac to be the sacrifice to show how much Abraham loved God. Abraham obeyed God, but before he kills Isaac God spoke out. He told Abraham he saw how much he loved Him and so then he allowed Isaac to live.
Jessica Nguyen was a very studious student. She obeyed her parents without any question. They told her to study hard and that it will all pay in the future. Jessica grew up getting into a really good College with a full scholarship. Her parents were so proud of her they bought her a car.

When we disobey our parents, our brothers and sisters, or our grandparents, we sometimes get yelled at and even lectured. At the same time, we are also angry or annoyed that we only see their anger and frustration. But did you know behind all of that, they are very sad and disappointed, not only because you have failed, but they have failed too. They have to do a lot to keep us clothed, fed, sheltered, and safe. They are trying very hard to help guide you become good children.

Have you noticed how happy your parents are when you listen and obey them? It makes them smile and they look a lot younger! Sometimes they even compliment us on how well we did and might even reward us with money or a gift because they are proud of you. They will say “Good Job” and smile. Take the time to notice how happy they are and how contagious God’s love is, because you are also happy. When we obey them, we make them less worried about us because they know we are listening and that we are safe.

We have learned to be obedient to our elders. They include our parents, family, and teachers. They are the ones that love us and want to see us succeed. Because of this reason they want to protect us. When we disobey them, we hurt them and they become sad. We listen to them so that they do not have to worry about us.
